DIY Sword Charm Keychain: Easy Metal Pendant and Key Ring Tutorial

1. Choose the charm and attachment

For a regular keychain, choose the Keychain Ring with Chain. For a detachable bag charm, a Lobster Clasp Keychain with Ring can be useful if it suits your bag hardware. You may also need a Jump Ring sized to fit the pendant hole and chain link.

2. Assemble the keychain in five steps

  1. Lay out the parts. Place the pendant, key ring with chain, jump ring and two suitable pliers on a clean surface.
  2. Check the pendant hole. Make sure the jump ring passes through it freely without forcing or scratching the charm.
  3. Open the jump ring sideways. Hold one side with each plier and twist one side forward; do not pull the ring ends apart.
  4. Connect the charm. Pass the jump ring through the sword pendant and the last chain link, then twist the ring closed until the ends meet.
  5. Test the finish. Check for sharp edges and a visible gap. Gently pull-test the connection before attaching keys or a bag.

3. Two ways to style it

  • Minimal keychain: use one sword pendant with a plain key ring and short chain.
  • Bag charm: use the pendant with a suitable lobster clasp for a removable decorative accent.
