Purse Nylon Thread Guide: Choose 50, 60, 70 or 80 for Beaded Bags

The thread affects how a beaded purse holds its shape. This guide starts with a test panel rather than wasting material on a full bag.

What you will make

A small woven sample panel that helps you choose a suitable nylon thread for your beaded handbag or clutch.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Choose a thread code from the product options. Our listing shows 50 (350m), 60 (250m), 70 (180m) and 80 (135m); these are seller size codes and roll lengths, not bead-hole diameters.
  2. Test the thread through two or three actual bead holes before planning the full project. Do not force a thick thread through a tight hole.
  3. Sketch a small square grid on paper. Start with a sample of only a few rows so you can check the pattern and joining method.
  4. Thread the first row of beads. Follow the same weaving direction and consistent tension for each next row.
  5. Secure joins and thread ends using a knotting method appropriate for your chosen nylon. Avoid sharp bead edges and inspect for fraying.
  6. Hold the sample upright and flex it gently. If it sags, feels too stiff or cuts into the thread, change the thread/bead combination before making a full purse.

Before selling your finished piece

50 and 60 are common starting options; 80 may suit some heavier-bead applications, but fit and strength depend on the exact beads and construction. Test load-bearing joins, handle attachments and weight before selling.

Quick questions

Is 80 a thread diameter in millimetres? No. The listed 50/60/70/80 values are product size codes; confirm fit with your bead holes and project.
